The background to this book is simple - I wanted to read it myself, and the only way to be able to do that was to create the book. Over the past few years I have bought and browsed through a number of old books - The Book of Football, Association Football, and the four volume Association Football and the Men Who Made It. Each is interesting but realising that there are many images of some grounds such as Villa Park or Queen’s Club but spread across the different books and across the pages within idividual books was so frustrating! Here the images are brought together for the first time, along with maps of the grounds from the early 1900s, to give an understanding of how some of our most famous grounds began. Also included is information on the public schools who shapes the game and features on stadiums hosting finals and Internationals. Early on it was a concern that some images were not properly captioned, just used as stock images. With diligent research and the help of expert friends two of the images on the Baseball Ground pages can now with confidence be said to be that ground, there is an aditional image of Filbert Street, also the original open end at Bramall Lane. I include photos from a QPR ground for which it seems there are no other images and which was not named in the source books. Best of all is one ground identified by an advert... for a local company who still trade from the same address 100+ years later! Now only available from myself as publisher in new condition.
